Tradenames and other names

Bot. Name: Fraxinus excelsior

Tradename De: Oliv-Esche

Tradename En: Olive Ash

Properties

Raw density: 590 - 630 Kg/m3

Occurrence

The ash is native throughout Europe with the exception of central and southern Spain, in the Near East and partly in India.

Characteristic and wood color

Sapwood and heartwood are hardly distinguishable. The sapwood is wide and almost white. A pronounced heartwood formation occurs with increasing age of the tree, whereby the same then becomes grey, brownish to olive-coloured sharply. The late wood is darker than the early wood. The wood is irregularly drawn, grained or striped in various shades of colour and is therefore decorative in its effect. The texture is medium coarse to coarse and uneven throughout, while the structure is mostly straight grained.
