Detailed Description
A tree up to 50 m high with diameters of up to 2 m, whose shaft is free of branches up to about 30 m. The bark of young trees is white and smooth, of older trees grey to orange, with fine lines, flaky, peeling off, sap is abundantly secreted during cutting.

Occurrence
West African equatorial forest from Liberia via Cameroon, Ubanga to Belgian Congo, often also in secondary forest, less in coastal areas than in the less rainy hilly and mountainous regions.
Characteristic and wood color
The sapwood of the wood is broad and pale yellow, hardly distinguishable from the heartwood, the latter only occasionally having a light olive-brown hue. The wood is uniformly whitish yellow, often shiny like a mirror. Growth zones often several cm wide. Abachi is soft, very light, flexible and elastic.
