Eccentric birch veneer for Dirty Harry
The "Dirty Harry" project is an innovative residential building in Basel's St. Johann district that is characterised by its sustainable construction methods and community orientation. The name of the building is derived from the use of clay as a building material, which literally gives the construction workers "dirty hands", but in return enables an excellent indoor climate and environmentally friendly living. The five-storey building comprises eleven flats, which house a diverse community of families, couples and singles.
The architecture of the building, designed by the young architectural firm Neume, is characterised by the use of natural and ecological materials, in particular clay and European birch from sustainable forestry. The birch was processed in the form of rotary-cut veneer, which enables efficient utilisation of the wood and meets the ecological requirements of the project.
The careful selection by the architects and advice on veneer selection for the project took place in Roser AG's concept.room.Roser's concept.room offers architects and planners comprehensive materialisation advice and a veneer library with a large number of wood samples to help them select the best possible wood products for their projects.
The Weber joinery was responsible for the entire interior fit-out and emphasised the fine grain and light appearance of the birch wood.
